Happy New Weird 2017

Changing from one year to the next brings with it some things we can't resist as human beings. One thing, in particular, is the need to reflect on the past year, the accomplishments, the failures, the drama, the losses, and gains.

We... take stock.

We, here, at Untethered Realms would like to invite you to share your thoughts as you reflect on the past year and look to the new.

I, personally, have to admit that 2016 was filled with lots of game-changing moments. If I were an alien, I would have my "visionware" tuned in to the Earth channel with lots of popcorn on hand to see what exciting, jaw-dropping, heartbreaking, or soul-inspiring events would happen in the episodes of 2017.

Since I'm an earthling in the here and now - and this isn't a reality show but real - for real - life, I'd like to wish everyone a very Happy New Weird as our journeys continue in 2017.
 - Let your imagination expand, grow and soar. Talk about fun!!
 - Try that new recipe you held back because you weren't sure who would eat it. Maybe it can be a fun experiment just for you.
 - Take a chance on something different: yourself. You're worth it.
 - Read that book with that weird title and discover something new. You never know what you like until you give it a try.
 - Grab that new story idea by the horns and give it some life, even if it is a little weird for you. It may start you on a fantastic writing voyage.

So what about you, what are some of your thoughts as you reflect on 2016? Do you have any hopes or aspirations you're working toward for 2017? And what if it turned out Earth and all the crazy that is us is actually a reality show for aliens in a galaxy far, far away?

  1. Happy New Year! Last year was a learning year, and I feel this year will continue to be the same thing. I so totally wouldn't be surprised if we were a reality show. I mean, why else would aliens let humans survive this long without us being entertaining?!

  2. Right now, I wish my cold would go away. Every year is a learning year and I'm grateful for them. I'm going to try to be more present and be grateful for 'what is'. Other things I'm pretending didn't happen.

  3. A very happy (and creative) year to all at Untethered Realms. I continue, naive fool that I am, to wish for world peace. Call me an optomistic pessimist. I hope for the best, and expect the worst.

  5. Happy new Year. My biggest hope for 2017 is less hospital visits. Had way too many in 2016 and it cut into writing.

  6. I've been contemplating whether we are spiraling inside an energy ball, completely at the mercy of a giant alien child as he/she/it plays with us like a toy. What happens to our universe if the toy is abandoned?

  7. If I found out the aliens were interested in watching the Kardashians I would seriously wonder if they were ahead of us on the intelligence scale. I would like to create some scrapbooks since I have many pictures in boxes. I hope my friend can get through the major changes happening in her life and I hope I can lose just a little weight. 2016 is a year of ok. I can thankfully say nothing horrible happened but nothing hugely amazing either. So if aliens watched me they would be falling asleep. Happy New Year to you!

  9. I thought everyone knew we're living in an alien reality show?!

On a serious note, 2016 was a game-changer on a personal front. In an awesome way. However, writing and even reading was pretty much put on hold. But 2017 will be different.
